Hedge Laying

The main principle of hedge laying is again to create a stock proof boundary between two fields.

As a rule of thumb a newly planted hedge will be laid for the first time when it reaches 15 years of age. The upright stems or pleachers are cut part way through to allow for them to be bent over to 45 degrees, however in Yorkshire they are laid flat to the ground.
